Pedals, Pipes, & Pizza
January 20, 2007
The Jacksonville AGO presented "Pedals, Pipes, and Pizza" on January 20, 2007, for ten children ranging in age from 7 to 15 years. Jon Gates provided a warm welcome at First United Methodist Church in downtown Jacksonville, which hosted the morning session. The children heard demonstrations by guild members Mary Holladay and Rodney Cleveland. They also played music at the console with guild member, Steve Jannetti, assisting. Concurrently, other registrants got a tour of the organ chamber led by Jim Garvin. A flashcard game and workbook activities rounded out the morning events. Following a scrumptious pizza lunch and socializing, we walked to St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, hosted by guild member, John Parkyn, consultant in recent upgrades to the Cathedral organ. Following an open console session, Certificates of Attendance were awarded. Rodney Cleveland, dean of the chapter, inspired everyone by closing with the Widor Toccata. Chairperson of the event, guild member Jane Daugherty, was ably assisted by Joanna Corbett (who handled much of the paperwork) and other guild members: David Emery, Dan Francabandiero, Eileen Gillooly, and Bernie Sans.

On January 14, 2006, the Jacksonville Chapter hosted a Pedals, Pipes, and Pizza event, at Riverside Baptist Church and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. The class was very successful -- attended by 20 students. Students got a chance to see the organ pipes up close, and had the opportunity to play a piece of their choice on the magnificent organs.
Our Pedals, Pipes and Pizza event was organized by Jane Daugherty, who had the help of several AGO members, friends, and parents.
A person could get lost in all these pipes...
