History NeededThe history of the AGO in Jacksonville goes back to 1926 with the establishment of an AGO "branch" here. In 1947, "chapter" status was obtained and membership dues were $1.95. One highlight in our history was hosting the Southeastern Regional Convention in 1963 which included concerts and events at the Bolles School, Grace Chapel (n/k/a San Jose Episcopal Church), Jacksonville University, and Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church. An effort is underway to compile a comprehensive history of the Jacksonville Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and its activities. We have many Clarions from the 1990’s forward (although a few are missing), but almost no documentation besides that. We are looking for newspaper clippings, newsletters, directories, correspondence and anything else that will help to show where the guild and its members have been and what we have accomplished. You may wish to donate the items (and gain some valuable shelf space!), or loan them for copying. Perhaps the item you have is special memories of significant persons and events. Would you be willing write your memories down for inclusion with our history? You could even do it in the form of an e-mail. If you have materials that might help, please contact the chapter historian, Tony Cruz. His contact information: |
