Ritz Chamber Players: Finale Concert
The Ritz Chamber Players bring a close to our 2009-2010 concert season by featuring the work of a great composer's music based on folk themes. Our departing musical gift will express Dvorak's belief that "the future music of this country must be founded upon what are called the Negro melodies. This must be the real foundation of any serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States." Audiences will delight in this incredible program with the stunning and expressive Dvorak Piano Quartet No. 2 through to a vibrant work by Brazilian composer, Villa-Lobos, described as "the single most significant creative figure in 20th-century Brazilian art music."

First Annual First Coast Choral Festival
You and your choir are invited to come to The First Annual First Coast Choral Festival, which will be presented by the Jacksonville Children's Chorus from June 18-20, 2010. This festival is open by invitation to treble choirs and SATB choirs, whether they represent school, church, or community. We are very excited to be able to include an SATB track for adults in the 2010 festival.
We are thrilled that internationally renowned composer/conductor Dr. Rollo A. Dilworth will be our Guest Artist at the festival. In addition to being an amazing musician, Rollo is also a very engaging person and the singers will enjoy working with him. He and I
will share the conducting rehearsals and performances of both tracks.
JCC inaugurated this festival because we are always seeking quality travel experiences for our own choirs. We generally prefer to take our singers to festivals where they can interact with choirs from other parts of the country instead of individual tours. There are a number of fine festivals in existence, and we have attended several and will continue to do so. However, there are not as many as one might think. We wanted to offer a festival in our historic and interesting city... one which would be non-competitive and focus on the sharing of music-making; thus, the First Coast Choral Festival.
By attending the First Coast Choral Festival you will help the Jacksonville Children's Chorus and contribute to the musical life of the city. We sincerely hope that you will join us for this event, to be held at Jacoby Symphony Hall in the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts.
If you are interested in participating in this festival, please print and fill out the application form attached (FirstCoastChoralFestival2010.pdf). Return it and the non-refundable registration fee at your earliest convenience. Letters of invitation will be issued two weeks after receipt of the application.
The first six churches to register choirs with forms and payment received may have input into the repertoire of the concert.
If you need further information, please call the Jacksonville Children's Chorus Office at (904) 353-1636. We will be happy to talk with you. Your participation in the First Coast Choral Festival will enrich the cultural life of Northeast Florida and you choir member experience.
