Music at First Pres in Gainesville
Violinist Janna Lower and organist Mark Coffey will present a concert on Sunday, November 2 at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church. Together they will play Nos. 1-5 of Sechs Stucke (Six Pieces), Op. 150, by German composer Josef Gabriel Rheinberger and variations of the hymn “Jesus, Priceless Treasure” by Dutch composer Jan Bender. Lower will play one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s solo partitas, suites of dance movements.
Janna Lower is Associate Professor of Violin and Head of the Strings Area at the University of Florida. Preceding that appointment, she was Artist Teacher of Violin at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. She received both Bachelor's and Master's degrees at The Juilliard School and the Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Michigan.
Mark Coffey, Director of Music and Organist at First Presbyterian Church, was born in Baltimore, Maryland. After completing his Bachelor's degree in Music Education at Towson State University, Baltimore, Maryland, he earned the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Organ Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music.

Palm Coast: Portraits ~ The First Black American Divas of Song and Opera

Advent on the Riverbank
"On the Riverbank" is a new fine arts series sponsored by the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour. Advent on the Riverbank is a candlelight service of readings and music based on the four themes of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. The readings are both biblical and taken from the writings of Madeleine L'Engle.
The music is from the Renaissance to the 21st century, performed by the Parish Choir, directed by Alan Whitmore. Guest artists are the Classic Brass Quartet [led by Marc Dickman of UNF], violinist Shayne Jones [a dance and music student at JU] and guitarist Austin Webb [a student from Douglass Anderson].
